Alana posted her Grand Plan for the coming week of the Hybrid Cure. Here is mine.
Diagnosis:
Read pages 1 - 51 of Apartment Therapy, The Eight Week Cure, by Maxwell Gillingham Ryan (M G-R). (I recently loaned this book to a friend – who loved it. She returned it last time I saw her. I had no idea I’d be needing it so soon!)
Pages 42 to 44,"The Interview." Although I have done more cures than I can easily count, in two other apartments, I realize as I think about this that a) I’ve never done the Interview and Quiz in terms of my current apartment and b) I don’t think I’ve done a proper Cure (or even an improper one) since determining my “Style” of Elegant Creative.
On page 48 is a quiz designed to pinpoint problems in your home. Some of the problems are non-addressable, such as the crack in the door caused when my Dad fell and hit his head against the door. He said his head was okay. The door isn’t.
I love doing questionnaires, as those of you who know me know all too well. I will certainly be reporting on what I discover through the questions and answers.
Vision:
Read Chapter One.
Create a mission statement for my home. Oh, cool! A mission statement? I like that. Post images which illustrate it. Oh boy! Playing with pictures. I also like that.
Planning:
Create cleaning checklists for each room. (Shudder)
Make up a repair list for each room. (Some things will be doable, some not.)
Post daily de-clutter spots. (Major one is the storage room, which will be its own One Room Cure throughout the 8 weeks. There will be decluttering of other rooms as they come up, with the recognition that things destined to be stored in the storage room will have to wait until the storage room is ready for them.
Each will be posted on Sunday or Monday as the week for each room comes up.
Preparation:
I’ve started an Outbox. Thankfully, a friend hauled away the lavaflow-like Outbox that was making its way across the living room. So I’m starting afresh, and have a space set up.
Create a "Cure" file to house mission statement, checklists, pictures, measurements, etc.
So, based loosely on AT's Eight Week Cure, and Alana’s hybrid, here's the plan for my own hybrid:
Week One: Whole apartment, plan repairs and cleaning chores, create vision, prepare. Take before pictures. Post them. Also – a friend is coming for dinner on Saturday. A friend who has never been to my apartment. Kitchen and living room need just a tad of TLC. Fridge has been de-fooded, but not wiped out. Kitchen & bathroom floors need washing.
Week Two: Kitchen: deep cleaning of counter would be a good idea. Otherwise, I can focus on the storage room.
Week Three: Entryway: tidy landing strip. Tackle coat closet so that people who visit can hang their coats IN the closet, rather than on the hook suspended on the outside of the closet door. Continue with the storage room!
Week Four: Living Room/Dining Room: hopefully by this stage, the storage room will be ready to receive the things that are currently stored behind the chairs in the living room. That’s mostly what needs to happen in the Living Room. Keep working on the storage room.
Week Five: Home Office (hereafter referred to as Writing Room): Books that have been culled from bookcases need to go on shelving units in the storage room. Everything needs to be taken off the bed and given a new home on the storage room shelving units. Things in storage boxes in closet need to be relocated in the storage room. Transfer from PC to laptop should be getting close to complete.

Week Six: Bathroom: Clean. Not much will happen in this week. I’ll explain later.
Week Seven: Bedroom: Shelf in closet should be repatriated, as should two dresser drawers that currently have papers and things in them.
Week Eight: Final assault on the storage room – the dreaded TRUNK. I have no idea what’s in it. It hasn’t been opened for years. It’s Mum’s & Dad’s. I will have a friend help me with it. There’s stuff piled on top of it that hopefully will have been dealt with in the previous weeks. Maybe I’ll even have faced the Trunk Monster before this week. Here’s hoping.
