Moving right along -- Hybrid Cure, Week Five

You may have noticed that there was no sum-up of Week Four with "After" pictures. That's because the living room is nowhere near ready for its close-up. By Week Seven or Eight, I should be able to wrap up the living room.

I will wait for Alana's post to truly start Week Five, but for now, I'll post Before pictures of the home office, aka Writing Room. These pictures are so very "Beforeish" that it's embarrassing to post them, but... by the end of the Cure, I hope you'll be able to see a vast improvement!

Once again, there is much that has to await the setting-up of shelving in the storage room, but I can certainly keep myself busy this week sorting and filing papers. If I can get the bulk of those wrangled into storage containers of one sort or another (or discarded/shredded, as the case may be), I will be VERY happy.

Some day, the bed in the Writing Room will just be a bed, instead of being a holding/sorting/piling station. I look forward to that day with eager anticipation. Here's the long view, from the door, and a close-up. Yes, that's my Christmas tree. What? Doesn't everyone have a Christmas tree on a bath-bench in their home office? It's the latest thing in home decor! (The tree will go in the storage room, once said room is ready to receive it. I promise.)

And guess what? I have a lampshade question! (Don't I always?) I had this lamp of Dad's rewired, and I want to use it in the Writing Room. It's unique, and I'm sure there was a story about it -- unfortunately, it's a story I never requested. It's black marble, in a very interesting sort of style -- can anyone name the style for me? Or was the lampmaker just playing about with bits of left-over marble? Anyway, what shape of shade would you suggest?

Since this Hybrid Cure is also very much about the Storage Room, let's take a look in there, shall we? (Much as I hate to even suggest that...) All the papers that were removed from various containers in the far end of the room had to go somewhere -- and now they must be dealt with before they can be put away. Oh my.

And, much as I hate to say it, two of the drawers in my dresser in the bedroom are filled with papers. I'd really like to be able to use them for clothes. I think I'll start with them today. (And no, I have not taken a picture of them.)

That should be enough to be going on with, don't you think?

  1. That certainly is quite a bit going on! It looks as if your Writing room was the storage room: how did your folks ever manage without shelves in there?

I hope, though, that you won't be using papers for clothes. I hope allergies aren't quite that bad!

Looking forward to seeing some progress--even if it means smaller stacks of paper. (Mine is GINORMOUS! But I was able to find our Voter's registration cards. How do you like all that Orange?)

  2. My writing room was Mum & Dad's bedroom.

The storage room has always been the storage room. Mum & Dad had a particle board cupboard in there, which I got rid of, as it bothered my allergies.

I had to re-read my post to see what you meant by using papers for clothes. LOL!!! I should have worded that better, shouldn't I? I mean I want to use the dresser drawers for clothes storage instead of paper storage! *chuckle*

    Any lampshade suggestions?

All that Orange is quite something to behold. It's going to make for an interesting ride... ... ...

  3. Lampshade, yes, I can't remember what you decided for your others: they were drum shades, right?

The lamp base reminds me of a rather thickish candlestick lamp and they are usually given a shade like the red one on this page.

I like these, better, though: but I don't know how easy they would be to find. You might have to call up some lighting places to see. (I've found most lighting shops have a just a teeny tiny selection of shades, unfortunately.)

The chocolate brown ones with the lime green and pink insides. Click to enlarge: I'm simply interested in the drumish shape--not the colours!

  4. As you know, I feel your paper pain! :) But I am sure you will conquer it--you have a lot of resolve, which I envy.

That is quite a big lamp, isn't it? I think that I would look for the elusive drum shade, in a color that either brings out the pale ribbons of color in the black marble or that nicely complements the dark and light colors (maybe taupe or pale gray?).

  5. I like the old dark furniture you have there. You have lots to go through, but you'll get there.

About the lamp, it seems very traditional and old. Some reason I started thinking about a shade made of glass, don't know how it will work. Maybe even something colourful.

    How about this type http://my-crystal.com/glass-lamp-shades/
or then tiffany shade. I have no idea how you like that style, but if rest of the room will be light in colour it could actually work even though the lamp is totally different style.
I would not use a drum shape, not sure why. I think it will clash with the leg. But ofcourse you could try one. I might be very wrong here.
