Living room mystery solved, but not the way I wanted...

The short version of the story is that I bought new furniture -- a sofa and a chair -- that I thought were going to be perfect. They were delivered today, and they're way too big for the space. They looked so much smaller in the store.

So, they're going away.

Drat.

Lessons learned -- never buy on impulse, and always MEASURE both the space (depth as well as length) and the furniture.

And even though they were floor models, the smell is still bothering me. I thought buying floor models would mean that the smell would have gone out of them.

It was going to be sooooo good. Can you tell I'm disappointed? Very disappointed.

  1. Oh no! Poor scb! I really understand why you're disappointed.

Did you allready get rid of your old chairs? Hope not, so you have somewhere to sit.

  2. Thanks, Leena!

I kept Mum's chair, but the other two have gone. I have the dining chairs. I don't spend a lot of time in the living room, anyway, I'm usually at my computer, so I suppose it doesn't really matter.

I have company coming today, and I was really looking forward to her (my cousin) seeing the new furniture. Oh well.

  3. It's hard to find properly scaled furniture. I'm sorry it didn't work out! I understand completely.

  4. so sorry your sofa and chair didn't work out! one thing you can do is use newpaper or tape to mark out on the dimesnions of a piece on the floor- it really helps make it clear how much floorspace furniture will occupy.

I hope at least you were able to return them without a hassle!

  5. Thanks, Alana and Colleen.

Good idea about taping the space -- thanks!

They were clearance price so couldn't be returned to the store. My wonderful friends took them over to their place and have already sold the couch! Here's hoping someone will buy the chair as well.
